Rigathi Gachagua, leader of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP), has reaffirmed that his party will field a presidential candidate in the 2027 General Election.

This comes amid ongoing uncertainty within the United Opposition coalition, which has yet to agree on a single flagbearer to challenge President William Ruto.

During a meeting with South Rift grassroots leaders at his Wamunyoro base in Nyeri County, Gachagua urged them to rally behind DCP, arguing that the ruling UDA party has already locked out other contenders from its ticket.He emphasized DCP's strength and commitment to contesting all elective posts, including presidential, governor, senator, and local seats.

Despite the coalition's internal debates, Gachagua remains focused on expanding DCP's influence beyond its Mt Kenya stronghold to position the party nationally for the 2027 elections.

His strategy includes consolidating support through consultations with political leaders and community groups, aiming to form Kenya's 'sixth administration.
