Rosalía urges greater diversity in the music industry

During her acceptance speech for the International Songwriter of the Year Award at the Ivor Novellos in London, Spanish singer Rosalía highlighted the lack of diversity in the music industry.

She emphasised that many talented songwriters remain unrecognised because they are not middle-class white Europeans, pointing out the systemic barriers that prevent them from achieving success.Rosalía spoke of her latest album, 'Lux', which took three years to produce and was inspired by a perceived lack of tenderness in the world. She described the music industry as a demanding environment that often sidelines voices that do not conform to established norms.

Beyond music, she touched on broader societal issues, lamenting a world dominated by ego and a thirst for power, where injustice and inequality are commonplace, and conflicts in regions such as Israel, Palestine, Syria, Yemen, Iran, and parts of Africa persist.

Other artists at the ceremony, including Sam Fender and CMAT, also addressed social and political issues, advocating for greater representation and speaking against fascism and inequality. The event also featured Thom Yorke debuting a new song and was marked by critical acclaim for Rosalía’s album and performances.
