Salim Baabde, a director from Amsons Group, has been elected as the new chairman of the Tanzania Association of Oil Marketing Companies (TAOMAC).This happened during the 26th Annual General Meeting held in Dar es Salaam on 29th May 2026.He takes over from Mamadou Ngom, the managing director of TotalEnergies Tanzania, who finished his term.Imani Mtafya from Oryx Energies was chosen as vice chairman.
The new leaders will guide the group at a difficult time when oil companies are dealing with supply chain problems, changing rules from the government, and ups and downs in the market.TAOMAC represents companies that handle more than 97 percent of petroleum imports in Tanzania.These companies play a big role in fuel supply for transport, power, and manufacturing.The industry continues to face issues like global fuel price changes and foreign currency pressures.The meeting also approved the 2026 budget and elected a 10-member Board of Governors.Some new companies joined, including GM & Company, Mansoor Industries Limited, and Petroafrica Tanzania Limited.The association helps in talks with the government about fuel imports, storage, distribution, and prices.This leadership change is important for Tanzania's energy security and economic growth as the sector remains very key.The new board shows diversity with firms from different ports and backgrounds.
