The Senate is exploring a potential schedule adjustment to streamline the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.Senate President Sherwin 'Win' Gatchalian revealed discussions with Senate impeachment court presiding officer Francis 'Chiz' Escudero about altering the order of presenting Articles of Impeachment.

The House prosecution panel recently concluded its presentation of witnesses and evidence for Article IV, which addresses Duterte's alleged death threats against President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., his wife Liza Araneta-Marcos, and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.Under the initial plan, the prosecution would first present all Articles, followed by the defense's individual responses.

However, Gatchalian proposed allowing the defense to respond to Article IV before moving to Article I, which focuses on Duterte's alleged misuse of confidential funds.This change aims to prevent redundant witness testimonies and improve public understanding of the trial.The prosecution's presentation of Article IV took nine days, prompting the need for efficiency.Spokesperson Jay Tolosa expressed openness to this adjustment, while the defense's stance remains pending.

The Senate has already subpoenaed two Landbank officials as witnesses for Article I, and their testimonies may be rescheduled if the defense agrees to prioritize Article IV first.This potential shift highlights efforts to balance procedural thoroughness with public engagement in the ongoing legal process.
