Senate Republicans face internal disagreements over immigration funding and Trump’s anti-weaponization fund

gop

The U.S.Senate Republican majority has postponed a multibillion-dollar immigration enforcement funding package due to internal divisions over President Donald Trump’s proposed $1.776 billion “anti-weaponization” fund.

Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche met with Senate Republicans to discuss restrictions on the fund, which would provide financial relief to what the administration calls “victims of lawfare” and grant Trump and his family permanent immunity from tax audits.Senators emerged from the meeting with no clear resolution, as the 53-47 GOP majority cannot afford many defections.

Additional disputes included a $1 billion Secret Service security allocation for Trump’s White House ballroom, which was ultimately removed after objections from both senators and Democrats.Meanwhile, Senate Democrats criticized the GOP for being divided and vowed to oppose the fund in every possible way.In the House, Republicans also delayed a vote on an Iran War Powers Resolution, leaving the chamber until June 1.

These developments reflect ongoing tensions within the Republican Party and highlight clashes between Trump and his party leadership over budget priorities and oversight measures.
