Senator Francis 'Chiz' Escudero, who presides over the impeachment court, has proposed adjusting the schedule for the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

He suggested holding the trial in the morning from 9 or 10 o'clock until 2 o'clock in the afternoon, or for four to five hours, with sessions scheduled from 3 or 4 o'clock until completion.Escudero emphasized that Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian must decide on the proposed schedule changes.The current trial is held from Monday to Wednesday, starting at 2 p.m.

Escudero also highlighted the Senate's need to focus on the 2027 national budget deliberations, suggesting that sessions and rules could be suspended to allow committees to hold hearings on budget and other legislative measures.

He stressed that the impeachment trial is just one of the senators' responsibilities, as they must continue their legislative work, including passing crucial bills like the annual budget.The Senate session resumes on July 27, coinciding with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s fifth State of the Nation Address.
