US Condemns China's Aggressive Actions in South China Sea Clash with Philippine Navy
Senator Robinhood Padilla has condemned the recent aggressive actions of the China Coast Guard (CCG) against Philippine Navy personnel in the West Philippine Sea, urging the government to take decisive steps to protect Filipino troops and assert maritime rights.
The incident occurred on July 21, 2026, when CCG personnel assaulted a Philippine Navy serviceman with a wooden baton after the CCG vessel refused to comply with instructions to leave the area.
Padilla emphasized that the Philippines cannot remain silent when its soldiers are attacked while performing their duties within national jurisdiction.He criticized the repeated escalations as a clear aggression and called for accountability of those responsible.While acknowledging the need for peace, Padilla stressed that restraint should not be misinterpreted as weakness.
The Department of Foreign Affairs, National Defense, and the National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea also condemned the incident, which took place within the Philippines' exclusive economic zone.Padilla praised Philippine troops for maintaining discipline despite the provocation, noting they used only shields for protection.
