Senior Congress leader and former Member of Parliament, K.P.Dhanapalan, passed away on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Paravur, Kochi, Kerala.He was 76 years old.He was admitted to a private hospital early in the morning after feeling some uneasiness but could not be saved.His mortal remains will be placed at Paravur Municipal Townhall at 10.30 a.m.for the public to pay respects, and the final rites will take place later at his residence.Mr.Dhanapalan had a long and distinguished political career, starting with student activism.

He served as the secretary and vice president of the Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee and was the president of the Ernakulam District Congress Committee.He was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Chalakudy constituency in 2009 but lost in 2014 after being moved to Thrissur.

He also held various leadership positions in the Youth Congress and Kerala Students Union and served as a councillor of the Paravur Municipality for a decade.Despite contesting Kerala Assembly elections from Kodungalloor in 1987 and 2016, he could not secure a win.His contributions to the Congress party in Ernakulam and Kerala will be remembered by colleagues and citizens alike.
