Seven fishermen were arrested in Occidental Mindoro for allegedly using explosives to fish, according to Philippine Star reports.Authorities seized 900 kilos of dalagang bukid (yellow tail fusilier) and 105 kilos of giant trevally valued at P166,500.The suspects were also detained in possession of three fish tubs, a motorized banca, and an L300 van.Laboratory tests confirmed the fish showed signs consistent with blast fishing practices.Charges under the Philippine Fisheries Code were filed against the fishermen by the Provincial Prosecutor's Office.This incident highlights ongoing efforts to combat illegal fishing methods that harm marine ecosystems.
