The Sindh government has ordered a private school in Karachi to immediately reverse unlawful fee increases imposed during the summer holidays. In a directive issued to the principal and administrator of Veritas Learning Circle (Primary), the Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institutions mandated the school to stop collecting excess fees and refund amounts unlawfully charged to students.
The order follows a hearing where it was determined that the school had raised fees without approval from the registration authority, violating Rule 7(6) of the Sindh Private Educational Institutions (Regulation and Control) Rules 2005.
The directive requires the institution to submit a compliance report within 15 days, along with proof of refunds, and to only collect fees approved by the registration authority.A committee was formed after complaints about the fee hike, and the school was summoned for a hearing on July 9.
The circular issued to all schools emphasizes strict enforcement against unauthorized fee increases, with penalties including fines up to five lacs rupees and potential suspension of registration certificates.Authorities also warned against hidden charges and directed schools to display approved fees prominently.
