Six children aged between six and 15 were hospitalised in Cape Town after allegedly consuming a cooldrink purchased from a spaza shop in Ottery.The family of the affected children alleges that the drink contained seven substances, including heroin, cannabis, and a date-rape drug, which caused severe symptoms such as vomiting, collapsing, and breathing difficulties.The shop, which had been operating out of a rented property, has since closed down following community pressure and police involvement.

The cooldrink manufacturer stated it had not received formal complaints or medical findings to verify the allegations, emphasizing its commitment to consumer safety.Police confirmed an investigation is underway, with forensic testing of the beverage pending.

The property owner who rents the premises to the shop operators expressed shock at the incident and decided to close the business until the matter is resolved.
