The Springbok Women launched their Rugby Africa Women's Cup title defence in emphatic fashion, securing a comprehensive 64–5 victory over Madagascar at the RFUEA Grounds in Nairobi on Saturday afternoon.

The defending champions asserted their authority early in the match, building a solid 26–5 lead at half-time through well-executed tries from Jakkie Cilliers, Alichia Arries, Aphiwe Ngwevu, and Chuma Qawe.Their structured attack and physical dominance set the tone, with Madagascar struggling to contain South Africa’s pace and power across the park.The second half, however, showcased the depth and emerging talent within the Springbok Women’s squad.

Loose forward Logan Welman stole the spotlight on debut, producing a remarkable solo try after collecting the ball deep in her own half and surging more than 50 metres to score under the posts.Her performance highlighted both her athletic ability and composure on the international stage.

South Africa’s forwards continued to dominate through powerful mauls and sustained pressure, with Nombuyekezo Mdliki and Roseline Botes adding further tries.Botes, in particular, impressed with a brace as the rolling maul proved too strong for the Malagasy defence.

The introduction of several debutants added fresh energy, with Thandile Mazwi marking her first Test with a try, while Thami Yeko and Mary Zulu also crossed the line in the closing stages.

Fly-half Cilliers had an outstanding day with the boot, converting seven tries as the Springbok Women extended their lead and controlled the tempo throughout.
