The Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) has approved revised salary structures and new allowances for national government civil servants, effective from 1 July 2026.The changes cover basic salaries, commuter allowances, and house allowances clustered into three geographical zones.Nairobi-based staff in top grades (E4) receive up to KSh 100,000 in house allowances, while lower grades get smaller amounts.The adjustments aim to align with payroll reforms and cut out ghost workers by migrating systems to GHRIS.Public Service CS Geoffrey Ruku emphasized that the increments will reach all genuine civil servants, not fake employees.Unionisable staff will implement the changes through collective bargaining agreements.

This follows a January 2026 pay review backdated to July 2025, addressing long-standing issues of inflated government wage bills due to fraudulent entries like unborn children and underage workers listed as employees.
