The Sukkur-Hyderabad Motorway (M-6) project, a multi-billion-rupee initiative scheduled to start in the current fiscal year, has been divided into five sections during a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Communications.
The committee, chaired by Aijaz Hussain Jakhrani, was informed that the project comprises five segments: Hyderabad–Tando Adam, Tando Adam–Nawabshah, Nawabshah–Naushahro Feroze, Naushahro Feroze–Ranipur, and Ranipur–Sukkur. The project has faced delays exceeding five years due to factors like funding shortages and logistical challenges.Rs30 billion was allocated in the current financial year against a total requirement of Rs70 billion.
Sections I and II will be executed via public-private partnership (PPP), while Sections IV and V will be funded by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) and the OPEC Fund, respectively.
The committee also reviewed the National Highway Authority's (NHA) budget cuts, throw-forward schemes, and unresolved issues like the Quetta–Zhob road delays and the Rajanpur Toll Plaza's unutilized revenue.
Recommendations include stricter oversight of contractors, improved toll plaza management, and prioritizing critical stretches like the Fort Munro to Loralai road.A sub-committee was formed to scrutinize funding allocations and operational procedures.
