Super Typhoon Bavi Strengthens Outside Philippine Area of Responsibility

Super Typhoon Bavi continues to intensify outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of July 4, 2026.According to PAGASA, the typhoon's maximum sustained winds have reached 205 km/h with gusts up to 250 km/h.Located 2,790 kilometers east of Eastern Visayas, Bavi is moving westward toward PAR at a slow speed of 10 km/h.Weather specialist Daniel James Villamil noted that Bavi is expected to enter the PAR by July 8 and will be renamed Inday upon entry.Tropical cyclone wind signals, potentially up to Signal No.4, may be raised for Northern Luzon and Batanes due to the typhoon's proximity. While landfall in the Philippines is less likely, Bavi could approach extreme Northern Luzon or the Batanes region. The storm might head toward Taiwan, which is within PAR.

Additionally, Bavi is expected to enhance the southwest monsoon, causing widespread rainfall in western regions, including Metro Manila, by the second half of the week.

This situation mirrors the path of Super Typhoon Carina (Gaemi) in July 2024, which affected Northern Luzon and caused significant flooding despite not making landfall in the Philippines.Residents are advised to monitor updates as forecasts remain subject to change due to Bavi's distance from PAR and the country.
