The Tanzanian government has outlined a comprehensive plan to revitalize the Tanzania-Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA), positioning it as a key transport link in Southern Africa.

Minister for Transport Prof Makame Mbarawa emphasized modernizing infrastructure, adopting new technologies, and strengthening management systems to restore TAZARA's competitiveness.

The initiative aims to connect Dar es Salaam's Port with Zambia and the broader region, fostering economic integration and industrial development.

Zambia's Deputy High Commissioner highlighted the need for reliable transport corridors to support 21st-century growth, while Chinese Ambassador Chen Mingjian pledged support through industrial parks and special economic zones.

TAZARA Director General Eng Bruno Ching’andu noted the plan would enhance operational capacity, safety, and service quality for users including traders, farmers, and tourists.The project underscores regional cooperation and aims to create opportunities for Tanzania, Zambia, and neighboring countries.
