During an inspection of the National Museum in Dar es Salaam, Chande highlighted the importance of research in national development and encouraged scholars and the public to engage with museums and heritage sites.
The government plans to upgrade museum facilities to attract more visitors and align with international standards, including developing a digital system for tourist planning.The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament is seen as an opportunity to promote heritage tourism both locally and across Africa.
The initiative aims to position Tanzania as a major African tourism destination by 2030, leveraging its UNESCO World Heritage Sites like Serengeti and Stone Town of Zanzibar.
The government also plans to review heritage regulations to attract private sector investment, transforming museums into economic contributors while maintaining cultural integrity.
This effort seeks to diversify Tanzania's tourism offerings beyond wildlife and beach tourism, aligning with continental efforts to celebrate African history and culture.
