Meru County to Explore Banana Stem-Based Organic Hair Production Amid Health and Environmental Claims
Martin Chegere, a Senior Lecturer at the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) in Tanzania, has been promoted to the rank of Associate Professor at the age of 39, marking a significant milestone in his academic career.
His promotion, approved by the University Council on June 24, 2026, and announced shortly after, followed a rigorous academic evaluation process that recognised his excellence in teaching, research, and scholarly publications.He scored an impressive 8.39 points during the assessment, reflecting his strong performance across multiple academic areas.Chegere is an economist specialising in applied and development economics within UDSM’s School of Economics.
His research interests include food and nutrition economics, agricultural development, behavioural economics, poverty reduction strategies, impact evaluation, natural resource management, and policies aimed at improving children’s education and health outcomes.
Over the years, he has contributed to policy-relevant research in Tanzania and beyond, supporting evidence-based decision-making in key development sectors.In addition to his academic work, Chegere serves as Head of the Department of Applied Economics, a position he has held since June 2023.
He has successfully secured research funding from several international organisations, including the European Union, SIDA, NORAD, DANIDA, IDRC, FCDO, and the African Economic Research Consortium.He has also worked as a consultant for global institutions such as the World Bank and various government ministries.His promotion has been widely celebrated online, with many netizens praising his achievement and academic journey.
