Tanzania has secured a 1.87 billion Tanzanian shilling (7 million Norwegian Kroner) partnership with the Royal Norwegian Embassy and UNDP to enhance climate governance.
The initiative focuses on building institutional frameworks for the National Carbon Monitoring Centre, improving greenhouse gas tracking systems, and enabling participation in global carbon markets.
The one-year inception phase includes establishing a national carbon registry, modernizing climate transparency systems, and aligning with Paris Agreement standards.
Norway’s Ambassador emphasized the need for strong institutions in climate action, while UNDP highlighted previous collaborations, including Tanzania’s first greenhouse gas inventory.
The project aims to position Tanzania as a key player in international climate finance and carbon markets, with plans for private sector engagement and digital monitoring systems.
