The trial of Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala and his co-accused resumes with taxi boss Joe Sibanyoni set to testify as the state's first witness.Sibanyoni, a victim in the case, will provide eyewitness testimony alongside CCTV footage, forensic evidence, and cellphone analysis to address the 2022 shooting incident.

The prosecution, led by Elize le Roux, alleges that Matlala and his associates, including his wife Tsakane, Musa Kekana, Tiego Mabusela, and Nthabiseng Nzama, face 25 charges, including attempted murders of Sibanyoni, actor Tebogo Thobejane, and a friend injured in the attack.

Judge Cassim Moosa approved the trial's continuation despite a three-week adjournment, emphasizing the accused's responsibility to engage with the proceedings.Matlala's defense plans to make admissions but will remain silent on other charges.The state also plans to present evidence from the October 2023 attempted murder of Thobejane, who sustained severe spinal injuries.Thobejane expressed confidence in the justice process, highlighting the importance of evidence in the trial.
