TCN schedules maintenance outage affecting five states and parts of Niger Republic

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a planned electricity disruption that will affect parts of Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Bauchi, and Yobe States, as well as Gazaoua in the Niger Republic.

According to a statement issued by the TCN spokesperson, Ndidi Mbah, the outage is necessary to allow maintenance work at the Kumbotos 330 kilovolt transmission substation scheduled for Sunday.

The maintenance exercise is part of ongoing efforts to upgrade critical transmission infrastructure and improve overall power stability across the affected regions.TCN explained that the work will involve upgrading 330kV bus II jumpers and replacing existing 350mm² conductors with stronger 800mm² conductors. This upgrade is expected to strengthen the transmission network and enhance electricity reliability in the long term.

However, during the maintenance period, customers served by Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company, and Yola Electricity Distribution Company will experience temporary power interruptions.

The company further noted that some areas under Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JEDC) and YEDC will also be impacted, especially communities in Kano, Katsina, Jigawa, Azare in Bauchi State, Nguru in Yobe State, and parts of Gazaoua in the Niger Republic.TCN assured the public that the outage is temporary and strictly for maintenance purposes aimed at improving service delivery.Residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to make necessary preparations ahead of the scheduled outage.

The company also appealed for understanding, stressing that the upgrade is essential for strengthening Nigeria’s national grid and reducing future system failures. The intervention is part of broader efforts to modernise transmission infrastructure and support more stable electricity supply across the country.
