Senator Ted Cruz of the United States has accused Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu government of using public relations lobbying to hide the killing of Christians in the country.

Cruz criticized Nigeria's engagement of a $9 million lobbying firm, DCI Group, to communicate its actions on protecting Christians to the US government, calling it an attempt to deflect American concerns over the country's security crisis.

Former APC deputy publicity secretary Timi Frank alleged that the Presidency is deceiving Nigerians by presenting a reported letter from former US President Donald Trump as an endorsement of Tinubu's administration.The letter, dated July 6, was only made public later, raising questions about its authenticity.Frank argued that the letter was a routine diplomatic exchange, not an endorsement of Tinubu's leadership.

The US lawmakers have introduced measures to pressure Nigeria to address insecurity, including increasing withholding of aid to 100% until effective steps are taken.

Cruz reiterated his push for the 'Nigeria Religious Freedom Accountability Act of 2025' to hold Nigerian officials accountable for facilitating violence against Christians.The controversy highlights tensions between Nigeria and the US over security and political transparency.
