Prime Minister orders crackdown on corruption and recovery of misused public funds in Manyoni
Human rights advocates together with Maasai community leaders in Dar es Salaam have called for closer cooperation with the Police Force in the investigation of the killing of Chinese factory owner Bhaozang Ge.
The Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) has stressed that law enforcement should work directly with Maasai representatives in order to properly identify the real suspects and avoid unfairly blaming an entire ethnic community.
The appeal follows growing concerns that Maasai people in Dar es Salaam are facing increasing stigma, discrimination, and social exclusion after the murder incident.
According to THRDC advocate Onesmo Olengurumwa, collective blame has led to serious consequences for innocent Maasai residents, including job losses and discrimination in workplaces.
Community leaders say the situation has created fear and tension, as individuals are being treated with suspicion purely based on their ethnic identity rather than evidence.
The Maasai Association in Dar es Salaam, through its chairman Elia Sangeti Taiko, condemned the killing but emphasized that it should be treated as an isolated criminal act committed by individuals, not an entire community. He also confirmed that Maasai leaders are ready to cooperate with police to ensure proper communication and a fair investigation process.
Reports further indicate that the social impact of the incident has strained employment relations and daily interactions between Maasai people and other residents. Some community members have reportedly faced verbal harassment and workplace discrimination.Leaders are now calling for thorough investigations to ensure justice for the victim while protecting innocent citizens from collective punishment. The case continues to raise broader concerns about ethnic profiling and fairness in criminal investigations in Tanzania.
