Three confirmed dead, 18 still missing after nine-storey building collapse in Angeles City

A nine-storey building in Barangay Balibago, Angeles City, Pampanga collapsed around 3 a.m.on Sunday, leaving at least three people dead and 18 others still missing as of Monday morning.Rescue operations are ongoing more than 24 hours after the incident, with authorities continuing to search through heavy debris for survivors.

According to the Angeles City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, a total of 47 individuals were affected by the collapse, including 26 who were successfully rescued from the rubble.

Officials said the list of missing persons was based on workers who were reportedly on duty at the site, as well as reports from families who could not contact their relatives after the incident.

One of the confirmed fatalities was a 65-year-old Malaysian tourist who was trapped in a nearby apartelle that was damaged when the building collapsed.

Another victim was recovered from the rubble and declared dead after being brought to hospital, while a third individual was also reported dead but not immediately confirmed by doctors at the time of reporting.

Rescue teams, including firefighters, police, and disaster response units, have been using heavy equipment, life detectors, and search dogs to locate those still trapped.Authorities said most occupants were asleep when the structure gave way in the early hours of the morning.The building owner has been identified as Jackson Lim, with Golden Years Construction named as the contractor.The cause of the collapse has not yet been determined.Emergency response efforts continue as rescuers work through large slabs of concrete and twisted metal to reach possible survivors.
