The Federal High Court in Abuja has sentenced three men to life imprisonment for their roles in abducting schoolchildren and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State.

The defendants, Abdulrazak Umar (Abu Khalifa), Yunusa Musa (Yunusa Bin Musa), and Shamsu Adamu Sani (Abu Itisar), were charged with terrorism, kidnapping, and concealing information related to the abduction.

Prosecutors from the Department of State Services (DSS) argued that the men knowingly hid intelligence about terrorist activities and participated in kidnapping operations.The court accepted their guilty pleas but handed down harsh sentences, rejecting defense appeals for leniency.The defendants, all from Niger State, used messaging platforms to coordinate terrorist training and planning.

The case highlights the government's efforts to combat terrorism through strict legal action, while also showcasing tensions between justice and mercy in sentencing first-time offenders.
