The Federal High Court in Lagos conducted an inspection of a suspected methamphetamine production facility in Ogun State as part of the trial for 10 defendants accused of operating a clandestine ₦480 billion meth factory.

Justice Musa Kakaki led the inspection, allowing the prosecution and defense to tour the industrial site where the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) alleged large-scale meth production for export.Witness Mr.

Ajilema Anebi, an NDLEA lab expert, identified chemicals like benzyl alcohol, hydrochloric acid, and industrial reactors used in manufacturing methamphetamine.

The defense argued that the inspection only showed the production process, not the actual drug, while the prosecution emphasized the need to prove the defendants' possession of methamphetamine.

NDLEA's media director, Femi Babafemi, highlighted the discovery as a major breakthrough in combating drug production, noting the scale of chemicals and equipment seized.The court adjourned the hearing to July 24 for further proceedings on exhibit admissibility.

The case involves a drug baron, three Mexican nationals, and six accomplices, with NDLEA claiming international cartels are establishing labs in Nigeria's forests to evade detection.
