Two Assam Rifles personnel were killed in an ambush by suspected militants on NH-202 in Manipur's Ukhrul district on Monday afternoon.The attack occurred around 2pm when a group of 40 Assam Rifles personnel were traveling to their battalion headquarters.Security forces arrived at the scene and exchanged fire with the militants.The casualties included Warrant Officer Balwant Singh and constable CM Singh, who were critically injured and later succumbed to their injuries.The incident marks the second major strike on Assam Rifles personnel since the Manipur ethnic conflict began in May 2023.Local villagers reported heavy gunfire and explosions lasting nearly two hours, causing panic in nearby areas.The NSCN(IM), a breakaway faction based in Ukhrul, is suspected to be behind the ambush.No militant group has claimed responsibility yet, and the Assam Rifles has not issued an official statement.The attack highlights ongoing security challenges in the region, with tensions escalating due to ethnic conflicts and militant activities.Authorities are continuing operations to neutralize the militants and investigate the incident further.
