Two brothers from Winnipeg, aged 10 and 13, are believed to have drowned in Manitoba's Nutimik Lake after slipping into fast-moving rapids near Sturgeon Falls Trail on Saturday.RCMP confirmed a search is underway involving underwater recovery teams and the Hutterian Emergency Aquatic Response Team (HEART).

The boys were last seen in the rapids of Whiteshell Provincial Park, where a 38-year-old woman drowned in June 2025 and a 12-year-old boy died in May 2023.Police and emergency responders conducted searches using boats and drones, but the boys have not been found.Staff Sgt.Cory Meyers noted the area's dangerous currents and slippery rocks, urging caution near the falls.The boys' parents are on-site and described as devastated.Authorities emphasized the importance of wearing life jackets and maintaining a safe distance from the water.The incident highlights ongoing risks at the Nutimik Lake rapids, which are part of the Winnipeg River system near the Manitoba-Ontario border.
