Gauteng police have arrested two men, aged 47 and 52, in connection with a failed armed robbery attempt and a violent confrontation with a security officer in Silverton.

The incident occurred on July 7, 2026, when a security officer collected cash from a gambling establishment and was ambushed as he approached a company vehicle.The officer managed to secure the cash and evade the suspects, who fled in a gold Volkswagen Amarok.Police recovered multiple spent cartridges, including AK-47 and 9mm ammunition, during the investigation.A vehicle matching the description was later spotted, leading to a pursuit that ended in Nellmapius where the suspects were arrested.The recovered live ammunition and the suspects' alleged hiding places highlight the severity of the incident.The arrests are expected to be formally charged in Pretoria Magistrate’s Court.This case underscores the ongoing challenges of armed crime and the importance of security protocols in high-risk areas.
