Residents of Uasin Gishu can relax a bit after county health officials confirmed that a suspected Ebola case in Eldoret tested negative.The patient, a 29-year-old truck driver, had recently travelled from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), causing concern due to ongoing Ebola outbreaks in the DRC and Uganda.
Upon developing symptoms, he sought treatment at St Luke’s Hospital, where medical staff isolated him immediately and activated infection prevention protocols.Laboratory tests later confirmed that he did not have Ebola, reassuring the public that the virus is not present in Uasin Gishu.The county government has advised residents to stay calm, avoid spreading rumours, and continue following public health guidelines.People are encouraged to wash hands regularly, avoid contact with sick individuals’ body fluids, and report suspected cases promptly.Rapid response teams and enhanced surveillance at airports and borders remain in place as precautionary measures.
Citizens who experience sudden fever, severe headache, vomiting, diarrhoea, muscle pain, weakness, or unexplained bleeding, especially after travelling from affected regions, are urged to seek medical attention immediately.The county maintains a high alert on viral haemorrhagic diseases and continues monitoring for any new cases.
