UDA revises party constitution and seeks public input ahead of 2027 elections

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA), which is the ruling party in Kenya, has announced amendments to its party constitution as part of its ongoing internal reforms ahead of the 2027 General Election.

In an official notice signed by Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan and published under the Political Parties Act, 2011, the party confirmed that it has altered sections of its founding document. However, UDA did not publicly disclose the specific clauses or details of the changes made to the constitution.

The party has invited its members and the general public to review the amended constitution and submit their feedback before the changes are finalised.

This process is in line with Kenyan law, which requires political parties to notify the public whenever they amend their constitutions, ensuring transparency and accountability within party structures. The law also gives members an opportunity to scrutinise and challenge proposed changes before they take full legal effect.

According to the notice, the amended constitution is accessible through the party’s official website, and members are encouraged to review it and send written submissions, objections, or suggestions via the official party email address.

UDA stated that this engagement is part of strengthening its organisational structure and preparing for a stronger national presence ahead of the 2027 polls.

The move comes at a time when the party is intensifying efforts to consolidate its grassroots support and reposition itself politically for President William Ruto’s expected re-election bid.

Meanwhile, political debate continues in the country, with some leaders, including EALA MP David Sankok, making controversial remarks such as calling for the dissolution of the ODM party, reflecting the shifting political landscape in Kenya.Overall, the amendments highlight UDA’s focus on internal reforms and broader political strategy as the next general election approaches.
