Udupi resident found dead in Goa hotel room; police initiate murder investigation

A 42-year-old man from Malpe in Karnataka’s Udupi district, identified as Sandeep Saliyan, was found dead under suspicious circumstances in a hotel room in Calangute, Goa.Following the incident, Goa Police registered a murder case and have launched a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.According to police officials, Saliyan was in Goa along with three friends and they were staying at a hotel in Calangute.

On the night of the incident, he and his friends reportedly visited a casino in the area, where he is said to have interacted and befriended an unidentified individual whose identity has not yet been established.Later, his friends noticed his absence and began searching for him.He was eventually found unconscious inside his hotel room.Authorities also reported that some of his personal valuables were missing from the room, raising further suspicion of foul play.

A senior police officer confirmed that a murder case has been registered at Calangute Police Station and multiple angles are being examined as part of the ongoing probe.

A postmortem examination was conducted, however the exact cause of death has not yet been conclusively determined, as viscera samples have been preserved for further forensic analysis.

Saliyan was previously known to have served as a personal aide to BJP leader Pramod Madhwaraj and had later moved on to run a water sports business in Malpe, Udupi.

Police are currently attempting to trace the unidentified person he reportedly met in Goa and are also verifying CCTV footage and witness statements to reconstruct his final movements.The investigation remains active as authorities work to determine whether the case involves robbery, targeted attack, or other motives.
