Despite crew instructions to turn off all devices, the device remained visible, prompting staff to escalate the situation and ultimately decide to turn the aircraft around.The plane landed safely back at Newark at approximately 9.30pm.All 190 passengers and 12 crew members were evacuated while Port Authority police, aided by K9 units, conducted a thorough sweep of the aircraft.Passengers were re-screened by TSA and Customs officers before being allowed to continue their journey.The flight subsequently departed again at 2.19am with a fresh crew.No charges have been filed against the teenager, though the FBI has opened an investigation into the incident.The episode highlights the potential consequences of careless naming of electronic devices and the importance of following airline safety procedures.
