Vice President Emmanuel Nchimbi has called on Tanzanians to continue demanding a new constitution, emphasizing its role as the foundation for governance reforms and protecting citizens' rights.

During a speech at the Tanzania Human Rights Defenders Coalition (THRDC) General Assembly, he stressed that the constitution must be agreed upon by all stakeholders to serve as the supreme law guiding reforms.Nchimbi highlighted that a new constitution would replace conflicting laws, ensuring legal consistency and national unity.

He linked the demand for a new constitution to nationwide consultations by the CCM manifesto committee, which included it in the party's election platform.The push for a constitution has been ongoing for over four decades, with renewed focus since Tanzania's return to multiparty politics in 1992.

Nchimbi urged reform advocates to prioritize the constitution as the key to broader societal change, noting its importance in safeguarding human rights, promoting inclusive development, and fostering national pride.The speech underscored the need for collective effort and political will to achieve this constitutional milestone.
