Bauchi APM Sets 2027 Election Agenda: Fair Play and Strong Campaign
The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) in Abuja has warned hotel owners, event centres, and other public buildings to scrutinise groups using their facilities, or face serious penalties, including possible revocation of land titles. The warning comes as security measures are stepped up ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections.
A statement attributed to Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, emphasised that lands in the Federal Capital Territory are intended for lawful activities.
The FCTA said facilities will come under closer monitoring to prevent gatherings by organisations it describes as illegal and capable of destabilising the capital's peace. The directive also instructs venue owners to transact only with INEC-recognised leadership of political parties and to maintain proper records.Failure to comply could lead to sanctions, including revocation of land titles attached to the affected properties.
Critics note ambiguity in what constitutes an “illegal organisation,” sparking concerns about potential arbitrary enforcement, amid intra-party realignments and factional disputes ahead of the 2027 election cycle.
