Wike urges Rivers State to support Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid, cites federal benefits and unity

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that Rivers State has no option but to continue supporting President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He made the statement during a luncheon organised by the Rainbow Coalition in Port Harcourt in honour of political candidates preparing for upcoming elections in the state.

Wike explained that the Tinubu administration has allegedly provided Rivers State with significant federal appointments and developmental projects within a short period, urging residents to compare these benefits with those received under previous governments.

According to him, Rivers people should acknowledge and appreciate the federal government for what he described as recognition and rewards to the state.

He also emphasised that politics should be based on governance and development rather than ethnic or sectional sentiments, insisting that voters should focus on grassroots mobilisation, as elections are decided at polling units and wards.

Wike further expressed confidence in the strength of the Rainbow Coalition, saying the group is well positioned to dominate future elections in Rivers State. He called on aggrieved politicians to reconcile and return to the coalition, stressing unity and cooperation for the progress of the state. He also warned against any attempt to destabilise Rivers State, insisting that the people would resist such moves.

The event had governorship candidates from major political parties in attendance, highlighting ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections.
