The Youth Music Awards, the UK's largest grassroots music awards, have announced their relocation to Liverpool for the 2026 edition.This decision follows a six-year tenure in London and aims to address challenges faced by grassroots music projects across the country.With 86% of Youth Music funding organisations based outside London, the move seeks to provide greater support for emerging artists and venues.

Liverpool's selection aligns with the city's high demand for Youth Music programmes, where 20% more young people are on waiting lists compared to the South.The relocation also creates 21 new job roles, offering hands-on experience for young people.Organisers emphasise the importance of accessibility in music, ensuring opportunities are available regardless of background or postcode.

The awards will feature over 60 judges from music, media, and tech sectors, including notable artists like Myles Smith and industry giants like Spotify and YouTube.

This shift mirrors trends of other major music awards, such as the BRITs and Mercury Prize, moving out of London to foster a more inclusive and diverse music industry.
