Two youths from Dhaniyakhedi village in Madhya Pradesh's Raisen district were allegedly tortured by a mob over suspicion of stealing a water pump motor.The incident occurred on July 4 in Karmodiya village, where the victims were tied to a pole, beaten, and subjected to electric shocks by villagers.

A video of the assault, which showed the men surrounded by a mob and receiving electric shocks using a farm's crop protection device, went viral on social media.The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) took cognizance of the incident after NHRC member Priyank Kanooongo shared the video on his X handle.Raisen Superintendent of Police Ashutosh Gupta confirmed that stolen motors were recovered from the youths' possession, leading to legal action.

However, the allegations of torture emerged only after the video surfaced, prompting the police to file a separate case against the perpetrators and arrest two accused.The NHRC emphasized its commitment to addressing such incidents, while authorities continue efforts to identify and arrest others involved.The case highlights the dangers of vigilantism and the need for legal accountability in rural areas.
