Lagos Court Remands Blogger Over Defamation Allegations Against Tony Elumelu
Na Lagos, Federal High Court don arraign one 19-year-old blogger, Nwanorue John Surpruchi, over allegations wey say e defamed Tony Elumelu, CEO of United Bank for Africa (UBA).
According to the police, the blogger publish story wey claim say Elumelu divorce him wife after DNA test show say none of him seven children belong to am.The post reportedly reach about 1.9 million people, get over 6,300 likes and plenty reposts for social media.Prosecutor A.G.Obi talk say the post don cause Elumelu and him family wahala, insult, and damage their reputation.The charges na cyberstalking, bullying, and defamation under the Cybercrimes Act 2015 (as amended) and Criminal Code Act 2004.When the charge read to am, the blogger plead not guilty.Court hear say prosecution dey ready to continue with the case but need time to check the bail application wey the blogger file.Defence lawyer, Anslem Etoh, request small adjournment for the bail matter.
Judge Lewis-Allagoa adjourn am till June 19, 2026, and order say the blogger remain in Nigerian Correctional Centre till dem hear the bail application.The case dey raise serious discussions on social media responsibility and the legal consequences of spreading false information online in Nigeria.
