The Toronto Blue Jays continued their strong run of form on Saturday with a 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Rogers Centre, extending their winning streak to four games.George Springer set the tone immediately by blasting a lead-off home run, the 65th lead-off homer of his career, against Pirates ace Paul Skenes.The early shot also ended Skenes’s streak of 15 consecutive scoreless innings on the road.

Toronto received an impressive performance from veteran starter Patrick Corbin, who worked six innings and allowed just one run on five hits while striking out seven batters without issuing a walk.

After facing early trouble in the second inning, Corbin retired 14 straight hitters and kept Pittsburgh’s offence under control throughout his outing.The Blue Jays broke the game open in the sixth inning.

Jesus Sanchez delivered the key hit with a go-ahead RBI double, the 100th double of his Major League Baseball career, while Ernie Clement added an RBI single during the three-run frame.Catcher Tyler Heineman contributed additional offence with his first home run of the season in the seventh inning.

Toronto’s bullpen finished the game effectively despite a shaky eighth inning from Yariel Rodriguez, who allowed a run while issuing two walks and committing a throwing error.Braydon Fisher and Jeff Hoffman closed things out, with Hoffman striking out the side in the ninth inning to record his fifth save.The game also featured a milestone for Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds, who played in his 1,000th MLB game and recorded a sixth-inning single.Meanwhile, Pittsburgh manager Don Kelly was ejected in the sixth inning after arguing with home-plate umpire Alan Porter.
