The Federal High Court in Abuja has allowed Omoyele Sowore’s defense team to summon the Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Tosin Ajayi, to testify in his ongoing cybercrime trial.The ruling comes after a subpoenaed DSS witness, Uwem Davies, testified that he did not author or sign key documents used by the prosecution.

Davies claimed he only followed directives from the DSS DG to demand the removal of social media posts where Sowore labeled President Tinubu as 'a criminal.' The defense argued that only the DG could explain the basis for the DSS’s actions against Sowore.The court rejected an attempt by Davies to testify on behalf of another subpoenaed witness, Bamigboye, who is reportedly retired.The trial continues as the court awaits the DG’s appearance.Sowore claims the charges are politically motivated to suppress dissent.The DSS previously petitioned Meta and X to suspend Sowore’s accounts over posts critical of Tinubu, citing violations of cybercrime laws.However, the authenticity of key documents, like the Facebook letter, is now in question after Davies denied authoring them.The case highlights tensions between free speech and state surveillance in Nigeria.
