Aliko Dangote, Africa's richest industrialist, has unveiled a major investment pipeline in Tanzania beyond his existing cement plant.The projects include a 2,000-megawatt coal-fired power plant, urea fertiliser complex, port infrastructure, and transport corridors.

President Samia has initiated technical discussions to formalise these investments, which align with Tanzania's Dira 2050 strategy for regional economic growth.Meanwhile, Dangote's planned East African refinery is now set for Lamu instead of Tanga due to commercial and technical factors.Kenya benefits from securing a downstream energy asset, while Tanzania gains upstream infrastructure critical for manufacturing and mining.The investments highlight the importance of feedstock logistics, demand depth, and regulatory readiness in attracting large-scale capital.

However, challenges remain, including financing coal projects amid global green investment trends, securing offtake agreements, and navigating legal reviews.
