Trinamool Congress (TMC) Rajya Sabha MP Derek O'Brien has raised serious concerns over the security situation in West Bengal after party leader and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee was allegedly attacked during a visit to Sonarpur area.Banerjee had gone to meet families of victims of post-poll violence when he was reportedly surrounded and assaulted by a group of people.

In a post on social media platform X, Derek O'Brien directly questioned Union Home Minister Amit Shah, asking what was happening in Bengal and why adequate security arrangements were not in place.He also claimed that Banerjee’s security cover was withdrawn on the day of vote counting, demanding clarification from the central government.The TMC further described the incident as a serious lapse in security and a targeted attack on an opposition leader.Meanwhile, the BJP has not officially responded to the allegations in the reported text.
