At the Edo SHINE Primary Health Care Summit 2026 in Benin City, Governor Monday Okpebholo emphasized the need for a people-centred healthcare system that guarantees quality and accessible services for all Edo residents.

The summit’s theme, 'Strengthening Primary Health Care Systems to Accelerate Progress Towards Universal Health Coverage and Improved Health Outcomes,' highlighted investments in modern health infrastructure, expanding the healthcare workforce, and strengthening disease surveillance.Commissioner for Health, Dr.

Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, noted that primary healthcare is the foundation of an effective health system, serving as the first point of contact for citizens.The state government is also deploying digital health solutions, improving care quality, and promoting data-driven decisions.While acknowledging progress, officials stressed the need to address workforce shortages, strengthen financing, and improve infrastructure.Partners like the World Bank commended Edo’s healthcare reforms, positioning the state as a leader in Nigeria.The summit aimed to review progress, exchange ideas, and develop strategies to ensure no community is left behind in healthcare access.
