FG Denies Attack On Borno School, Military Says Abduction Attempt Foiled

The federal government has officially denied reports of a terrorist attack on the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC) in Monguno, Borno State.A statement by the Federal Ministry of Education called the allegations false and misleading, emphasizing that the school remains safe. The denial comes after the military claimed to have thwarted an attempted mass abduction by suspected ISWAP terrorists.

According to the military, troops and the Nigeria Police Mobile Force (MOPOL) stopped the attackers, who allegedly entered the school with the help of collaborators. All 46 students were rescued and taken to Kinnasara Barracks for medical care, though some were injured during the clash. The ministry stressed that no attack occurred, and all students, staff, and facilities are secure.

Education Minister Tunji Alausa highlighted the government’s commitment to ensuring safety in federal schools, clarifying that the affected students were remedial learners not affiliated with the institution. The ministry warned against spreading unverified information, which could cause panic and harm public trust. They urged parents to stay calm and assured there’s no security threat.

The incident underscores ongoing tensions in Borno, where similar abductions have occurred, and the need for coordinated efforts between security agencies and authorities to protect educational institutions.
