During the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests in Nairobi, chaos erupted as demonstrators overwhelmed security and breached the Parliament Buildings.Several MPs had to evacuate, and part of the building was set ablaze.
Amidst the violence, COTU-K Secretary General Francis Atwoli revealed that his youngest daughter, Maria Atwoli, was actively involved in the demonstrations.
Speaking at a function in Bungoma, Atwoli explained that he had to quickly get her out of Nairobi after she sent him a photo from inside Parliament and expressed fear for her life.
Maria, a lawyer known for her lavish lifestyle, has often shared glimpses of her luxurious life on social media, celebrating her close relationship with her father.
Atwoli’s intervention highlights the personal impact of the political unrest on families, especially the younger generation actively engaging in protests.
Despite the dangers, Maria’s participation underscores the strong involvement of Kenya’s youth in political activism and the risks they face during civil demonstrations.
