The Federal University of Technology Akure Teaching Hospital (FUTATH) is in the midst of a labor dispute as workers have rejected a meeting with federal government officials.

The standoff comes after the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) in Ondo State issued a seven-day strike ultimatum over alleged breaches of the transition agreement.

The unions accuse management of violating the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) governing the hospital's transition from a state facility to a federal institution.

FUTATH's Chief Medical Director (CMD) emphasized that management has been implementing approved reforms as directed by the Federal Ministry of Health, but disputes over these changes have led to repeated industrial actions.The CMD called for sustained industrial peace to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services and institutional growth.

The strike threatens to disrupt clinical operations and highlights ongoing tensions between labor unions and management over workers' rights and the transition process.Both parties are urged to engage in dialogue to resolve the conflict and prevent further disruptions to the hospital's operations.
