Tanzania government has set aside over 1.39 trillion shillings across three financial years to support its fee-free basic education programme.Majority of this fund, about 906.69 billion shillings, goes to secondary schools, while primary schools get around 488.19 billion shillings.The move shows strong commitment to help families access education without paying school fees.Dr.
Festo Dugange, Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Office for Regional Administration and Local Government, gave these details in the National Assembly.This funding aims to remove financial barriers, improve school facilities, and enhance teaching and learning conditions nationwide.The programme is guided by Education Circular No.3 of 2016, which also sets rules for voluntary contributions to support infrastructure.By ensuring schools have proper resources, the government hopes to increase enrollment, especially in remote areas, and improve literacy levels.The policy also aligns with regional trends in East Africa, recognizing education as a key to economic growth.Authorities insist on strict adherence to guidelines to guarantee funds are used properly.
