Governor presents policy address outlining governance and development priorities in Kerala Assembly session
For the very first time, the Indian government has carried out a structured performance assessment of various ministries and departments. This review focused on administrative efficiency, including delays in clearing files, addressing grievances, and responding to Cabinet proposals.
The Cabinet Secretariat prepared detailed scorecards for each ministry, and Cabinet Secretary T V Somanathan presented these rankings during a Council of Ministers meeting.
The purpose behind sharing these evaluations is to create a sense of healthy competition among ministries, encouraging faster decision-making and prompt grievance redressal.
There was no overall ranking combining all parameters, but the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, instructed ministers and officials to accelerate actions in the public interest. Some ministers immediately conducted review meetings with their teams to identify bottlenecks, while others plan to do so in the coming week.
Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan emphasised that farmers and the underprivileged should not face bureaucratic hurdles and directed officials to prioritise grievance redressal.
He also called for simplifying procedures and leveraging AI, data analytics, and digital governance to drive greater efficiency in the agriculture and rural sector. This initiative marks a significant step towards improving governance and ensuring citizens’ concerns are addressed in a timely manner.
