IMD issues red alert for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar amid forecast of heavy to very heavy rainfall
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Mumbai and Thane, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall across the city and its suburbs for July 4-6.This has led to the closure of schools and colleges in Thane district and the Kalyan-Dombivli municipal area.Emergency helplines have been activated to manage the situation.
The monsoon rains have also caused flash floods and landslides in Arunachal Pradesh, cutting off several remote villages and requiring the deployment of a commercial helicopter to airlift essential supplies.Collapsed bridges and road blockades have isolated areas like Rotte, Rame, and Lower Siang.In Himachal Pradesh, National Highway-5 in Kinnaur was temporarily blocked due to a debris flow but has since been reopened.Strong winds and rains in Rajasthan damaged banners and hoardings at the Pachpadra refinery site hours before its inauguration.A separate incident in Mumbai resulted in a fatality after strong winds and rain caused a banner to fall near a public toilet.These events highlight the severe impact of monsoon weather on infrastructure, transportation, and daily life across multiple states.
